Palomar Women’s Wrestling Newsletter 02/19/2026
Comets family and friends,
Last night, the lady Comets had their home opener against Bakersfield College in a non-conference dual. This was a great showing by our team, and we won decisively by a score of 41-13, with an overall record of five actual wins to two losses. This was the first time we’ve seen our whole squad in action this season.
I was happy with the way the team brought some energy and fight into every match. Freshman 103 pounder Marie Gil set the tone immediately with a huge pin over a returning state finalist and the #1 wrestler in the state.
Props to Bakersfield for battling us with a smaller lineup and for being willing to wrestle some additional matches at the end.

What’s Next
Up next, we’ll be at Mt. San Antonio College on March 4th, followed by the State Dual Meet Championships in Fresno on March 7th. This will be a great opportunity to see where we are against the other teams in the state.
SDS Masters and CIF State Championships
I’ll be at both boys and girls SDS Masters this weekend looking for new Comets. Coaches, if you have any seniors looking to continue wrestling, please have them swing by my table to discuss. I’ll also be at the CIF State Championships next weekend.
Palomar provides an amazing opportunity to develop an athlete to move on to the next level. We will be in a new facility early next year, and the future for our program is very bright.

Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games Coaching Selection
I’ve been extremely lucky to work for USA Wrestling as the Head Beach Wresting World Team Coach for the past three years. Most recently, I’ve been selected to coach the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (U17 level), which will take place this November in Dakar, Senegal. This is the first time that Beach has been included in any official Olympic program.
We’ve finalized the selection process for the Games, and I encourage anyone who’s interested to attend the Olympic Trials in North Carolina on May 9th. I will be there as the head representative for USA Wrestling. We are also taking a very tough and experienced group of athletes (which is well represented by California) to the Pan American Championships in Panama, and there’s still time for high level athletes to fill out the remaining spots.
FYI, the Pan American Champion has the first right of refusal for the Olympic spot.
